The Tarot As A Tool for Self-Discovery

The Tarot is currently experiencing a resurgence of interest.  As our outer world continues to spiral out of control and we continue to exist in this liminal space we find ourselves in, turning inward to make sense of our reality and to  give us a sense of hope for the future, is increasingly important for our mental health.  The Tarot is a unique blend of psychology and mysticism that provides a snapshot of an individual’s life patterns or simply insights into specific questions regarding career, business, relationships, finance and other life issues.  Readings can be as simple as pulling 1, 2, or 3 cards or as complex as the ten card spread referred to as the Celtic Cross. With the client’s focus and energy directed inwards, questions are asked and cards are drawn, creating a story from the evocative, colorful imagery displayed on the cards.  The Tarot card deck consists of 78 cards, consisting of the Major Arcana, Minor Arcana and Court (Personality) cards, each representing different types of energy patterns operating within an individual.

C. G. Jung worked with archetypal patterns and symbols and believed the purpose of life was “individuation”.  Individuation involves the pursuing of one’s own vision of the truth which leads to realizing one’s fullest potential as a human being.  Through the expansion of our own consciousness (awareness) we connect with the collective unconscious and the subconscious, allowing all sorts of intuitive forms of knowing to occur.  The Tarot is one form of the intuitive knowing.

I love using the Tarot during coaching sessions with a client.  Often I will use these readings as a portal into coaching a client in reaching certain goals they have set for themselves.  The cards provide a wealth of information on psychological and personality traits that may illuminate the client’s understanding of why certain situations are happening or why certain people are behaving in a certain way.  Gaining information and understanding in this way provides us with a proactive edge in dealing with difficult situations and relationship issues.

If you are interesting in exploring the uses of Tarot to help you on your journey to self-understanding, growth and development, please reach out!  I’d love to set aside some time to talk about your questions and discuss how I may be able to help.  If that leads us into a coaching relationship, great!  If not, that is fine too.

Stay well and safe!
